VOLUNTARY GALLERY AMBASSADOR - PLYMOUTH COLLEGE OF ART

This is a great opportunity for students to gain valuable practical skills, curatorial experience and networking opportunities. Learning from professional artists and curators will benefit you when presenting your own work and give you an insight into different approaches to exhibitions and the methodology behind them.

The Role: Gallery Ambassador


Reports to: Gallery Producer

Job description:


You will work closely with the Gallery Producer and Gallery Technicians to install exhibitions in the main gallery at Plymouth College of Art. This is a voluntary role.


Key responsibilities:


  • Prepare the gallery for exhibitions 
  • Assist with the receipt/handling of artworks 
  • Work to high gallery standards as set by the Gallery Producer, visiting artists and curators 
  • Maintain a safe gallery environment for yourself and others, complying with the College’s Health and Safety policy
  • De-install exhibitions and pack artwork ready to be transported
  • The volunteer role requires physical work, including sanding/ painting/ lifting/ packing/ cleaning

Eligibility:

You must be a student at Plymouth College of Art on a Foundation Diploma or BA programme. We will consider applications from third year students if you are able to demonstrate your ability to commit to the scheme and are confident you can manage the role alongside the demands of your third year.


Time Commitment:


You will be expected to commit to working on 2-5 exhibition installs.
The dates for forthcoming exhibition installs are:
1. 18 November  - 4 December 2019 
2. 10 February - 20 February 2020
3. 14 April - 30 April 2020
4. 24 June - 1 July 2020
5. 17 August - 27 August 2020

The team works from 9-5pm each day, however your exact hours can be discussed closer to each exhibition install and you will not be expected to work every day of an install.

Informal interviews:

There are a limited number of volunteer places available, so we will run informal interviews to select people for the team. The selected panel will be made up of Leah Harris (Gallery Producer) and Paul Hillon (Technical Demonstrator, Fine Art). As part of the interview process references will be sought from your Programme Leader. Interviews will take place on:
