WHO ARE WE?
Arts Lab is a social enterprise that uses visual art to promote and in-
spire creative thinking and doing in every aspect of people’s lives. We connect artists with
communities, making art accessible to everyone. Championing collaboration, play and
curiosity, we encourage experimentation and creative thinking. The result is that we can
all feel more connected, valued and inspired to affect positive change in our own and

In response to the current crisis, we are reframing our programme to help combat levels
of isolation and anxiety in some of our most vulnerable communities. Young Creatives -
Sharing the Light is an Arts Lab Covid-19 response project supporting young visual artists
pursuing careers in the arts. The project provides opportunities for 16-25 year old
creatives each with their own specialism to maintain connection, wellbeing and professional
aspiration both during the current crisis and beyond.
WHY GET INVOLVED?
Young Artists - Sharing the Light is a platform to support artists to
develop their practice in ways that maximise the calibre of their artwork along-side working with and transforming communities. This means, as a young artist currently in art education you:
• maintain connection & purpose with others
• combat everyday dullness & isolation
• establish ways of responding to the current global crisis through creative expres-
sion, individual & collective voice
• grow your professional exposure, sharing your profile & artwork on our social media
platforms
• broaden your networks - professional, creative & social
• maintain hands-on making as an antidote to online dependency
• share untried artistic approaches to/ techniques of expression
• build entrepreneurial skills & opportunities to make money - selling artwork from our
platform (live exhibitions & / or online gallery shop on its way) & / or involvement in
community projects
• grow skills facilitating others to be creative
• build on independent learning skills & enjoyment of own company
• receive free mentoring once a month from specialists in the arts, health & wellbeing
and social enterprise
YOUR ROLE
As a team artist, over the course of 8 weeks, you will be involved in a weekly Chain
Reaction activity requiring you to create a piece of art responding to each week’s theme/
stimulus through your medium, involve your communities in doing the same and collating all
artworks into the project Archive folder. This will then be curated by our team onto regular
Instagram feeds and eventually onto an online gallery and multimedia extravaganza.
DETAILS
Weekly commitment: 5-15 hours per week (flexible)
Duration: 8-10 weeks (with potential to extend)
Location: Due to the current Covid-19 situation, all Arts Lab team members are working
from home and must have access to own equipment i.e. laptop and good internet connection.
Start date: ASAP
Report to: Sara Downham-Lotto (Arts Lab Director)
